This involves examining three different Retirement Living Standards which can be summarised as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Minimum: <\/strong>covers all your needs with some disposable income.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moderate: <\/strong>more financial security and flexibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Comfortable:<\/strong> more financial freedom and some luxuries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To give a more granular idea of what the different standards imply, these are how two sub-categories break down for food and drink, holidays and leisure:<\/p>\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-1\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-1\">\n<thead>\n<tr class=\"row-1\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><\/td><th class=\"column-2\">Minimum<\/th><th class=\"column-3\">Moderate<\/th><th class=\"column-4\">Comfortable<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-striping row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-2\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>Food and drink<\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">\u2022\tAround \u00a395 a week on groceries.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a350 a month per couple on food outside of the home.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a330 a month per couple on takeaways.<br \/>\n<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">\u2022\tAround \u00a3100 a week on groceries.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a360 a week per couple on food outside of the home.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a320 a week per couple on takeaways.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a3100 a month to take others out for a monthly meal.<br \/>\n<\/td><td class=\"column-4\">\u2022\tAround \u00a3130 a week on food.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a380 a week per couple on food outside of the home.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a330 a week per couple on takeaways.<br \/>\n\u2022\t\u00a3100 a month to take others out for a monthly meal.<br \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-3\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>Holidays and leisure<\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">\u2022\tA week-long UK holiday.<br \/>\n\u2022\tBasic TV and broadband plus a streaming service.<br \/>\n<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">\u2022\tA fortnight three-star, <br \/>\nall-inclusive holiday in the Mediterranean and a long weekend break in <br \/>\nthe UK.<br \/>\n\u2022\tBasic TV and broadband plus two streaming services.<\/td><td class=\"column-4\">\u2022A fortnight four-star holiday in the Mediterranean with spending money and three long weekend breaks in the UK.<br \/>\n\u2022Extensive bundled broadband and TV subscription.<br \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<!-- #tablepress-1 from cache -->\n<p>For the first time since 2019, the Moderate and Comfortable standards have been \u2018rebased\u2019 to allow for changed spending patterns. For example, out went two cars for the Comfortable standard and in came much higher spending on clothes in the Moderate standard. The rebasing means the gap between the 2023- and 2022-income requirements reflects more than just inflation \u2013 leading to the 34% jump for the Moderate single income requirement.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom-line costs shown in the graph below are net (after-tax) income requirements and take no account of any rental expenditure.
