The Autumn Budget\nmay have been deferred, but the tax year clock is still ticking.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deferral of\nthe Autumn Budget, originally due on 6 November 2019, created several problems.\nIt meant that the political parties went into the election with just a\ngovernment sanctioned economic forecast produced back in March, alongside Mr\nHammond\u2019s Spring Statement. Plenty had changed in the intervening eight months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of\nwriting, the next scheduled date for the Budget was unknown, although it is\nhighly unlikely to happen before 2020. That means its arrival will probably\ncoincide with the start of tax year end planning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes, as\nthe first Budget following an election, it could potentially include some\nunwelcome measures. History (and the Institute for Fiscal Studies) show that\nChancellors of all hues prefer to start off with the financial \u2018medicine\u2019 and\nsave the sweeteners until nearer the next visit to the polls. It therefore\nmakes sense to begin thinking about some tax year end planning before the\n(Winter) Budget arrives. Among the areas to consider are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
